*It was the beginning of the Prop 8 protests all around L.A. Wilshire (a main street used primarily to commute from West LA to Greater Los Angeles was blocked off completely. The local bus my colleagues and I use to get home had to take quiet a few detours just to get from Federal to Westwood (just bit under a mile). After about half an hour, we arrived at Westwood and Ohio, reasonably close to a desired stop but it was impossible for the bus to get there. When my friend and I got to Santa Monica Boulevard, we saw pro-prop 8er's showing support, waving signs, passing out stickers on all corners of the intersection. Being the smart asses we naturally are, I convinced my friend rob to apply a "vote YES on prop 8" sticker on his lower back. Then we proceeded to walk east on the Northern side of Santa Monica Boulevard, where the sacred Mormon Temple sits, and of course that day, an army of people that supported NO on 8
We continued on home unharmed, however Rob removed the sticker once he arrived home, as he lives in an area that's particularly unsafe to support prop 8 [laugh] . The protest lasted well past midnight and did so for about 2- 3 weeks inconsistently, from what I've heard they marched all around Los Angeles targeting strategic points of interest, drawing masses of law enforcement, but was actually quiet non-violent, except for a few instances. All in all, an experience.

but he did earn a spotlight from the helicopter, and a full riot defensive posture
from the authorities on the other side, whom formed a very loose phalanx [laugh]
reminiscent of the movie 300 :)
